Take photographs of people that tell us a story about that individual. Your portraits can be outdoors or inside but the most important thing is that they must tell us something about the individual you are photographing. Your choice of environment, the lighting, color, the angle and the composition of the photograph must be carefully thought out. These elements are all part of the process in which we will interpret your photograph and the individual your are photographing. Think specifically what certain colors could mean surrounding your subject. Your photos must go beyond a snapshot or candid and convey a deeper meaning in regards to your subject. You must shoot 150 exposures, No Flash is allowed.
Tips for success:
- Take photos in several different locations
- Use the lighting techniques discussed in class
- Watch for distracting backgrounds
- Get close
- Think about COLOR
- Do not restrict yourself to photographs of faces, photographs could be of hands, feet, hair etc…
Purpose: To explore portraiture as a means to say something about the subject you are photographing.
Gain a greater sensitivity of how different types of light make a person appear and how colors can effect perception of people.
Product: A minimum of 150 exposures, un-cropped, un-altered shot in CR2 format. Three of these images
will be chosen to be perfected in photoshop and printed for class critique.
