In this assignment you will create your own photo essay.
Create a series of images (a minimum of 6) which work together to tell a story.
The story may be chronological, visual or subject matter related.
At least 200 images must be photographed.
Tips for Success:
• Take many more photographs than you need so you can edit your story later .
• Use compositional guidelines and frame closely.
• Think about how color can affect the interpretation of an image.

- Did the photographer use staged photos, candid photos or both?
- Color or B&W? Did it make a difference? What factors contributed to the selection of one over the other?
- Find examples of good framing and composition and point them out. How close does the subject feel in the photo?
- Find examples of good use of color and light. Do you see backlighting? Were the photos taken early or late in the day?
- How much narration and text support the essay?
- Do the photos in the essay stand alone or do they need to be seen as a part of the whole?
- Describe your reaction to the essay. Do all photo essays illicit a reaction in the viewer?
PURPOSE:
1. Discover how to use several images to convey an idea or story that one image could not communicate.
2. Explore a subject in a detailed manner using both wide and close-up shots to better communicate.
3. Learn how to edit many images into a concise series that communicates a single idea or event.
Product: A minimum of 200 exposures, un-cropped, un-altered shot in CR2 format. Six of these images will be chosen to be perfected in photoshop and printed for class critique.
